COMPETITION
National Geographic and it's smaller niche publications (adventure, travel, culture etc.) is the biggest competitor. National Geographic and WOWA are similar in that both are magazines for travel and nature enthusiasts. National Geographic's coverage of different tribes and cultures around the world are honest, beautiful and respectful; however, the magazine is strictly for consumption and entertainment. While Nat Geo offers travel packages in the $10k range for explorers, they do not have a direct call to action in their articles. WOWA has honest and respectful coverage of other cultures, but they are written in a way to provide ideas and tips on how to help through tourism dollars and volunteer opportunities. The age group for National Geographic is also much older, geared towards retirees or those in their late 40s and 50s.
The Nature Conservancy and Sierra focus entirely on impactful adventures and environmental discoveries and conservation efforts. WOWA includes different hikes and countries to explore, as well as keep readers up to date on conservancy and sustainability news. WOWA wants to have travel and environmentalism themes in all articles and features, not one or the other.
Wanderlust Magazine inspires young people to travel more. We feel that is one-sided and a waste of time. Why not educate yourself while entertaining yourself at the same time?
